Pick a few tracks and set the playing time - the app automatically fills the rest of the playlist from your library by style, tempo, key and the history of tracks you've actually played. You can also upload a client's list or a Spotify playlist, and set the flow of the night exactly your way.
From practice A client only has to send me a few favourite tracks, or even a whole Spotify playlist. I load it into the app and it goes through my library on its own. Tracks it safely recognises it links to my database automatically, for uncertain versions it asks, and missing tracks it lists separately. In a moment I have a starting set straight from the Engine DJ database. Then I just set the playing time and the app fills in more tracks itself so they flow into each other by style, energy and tempo. It draws on what has actually worked for me at past gigs. Instead of several hours of building it by hand, I have a finished playlist draft in a few minutes.
The app finds duplicate tracks even with a different name, version or slightly edited metadata and recommends which copy to keep (then delete the marked ones right in the app). It shows tracks you haven't used in a long time and files Engine DJ can't find - and for tracks with no genre it suggests a suitable one.
From practice Before a gig I let the app go through my whole library. It finds duplicate tracks even when they have a slightly different name or another version, and recommends right away which copy to keep. It also flags tracks I haven't played in a long time and missing files, so I'm not dealing with it during the night in front of people. And when I search for something, I don't have to worry about the exact name or accents. It doesn't matter whether I type "rolnicky", "Rolničky" or just part of the name. What used to mean tedious clicking around the library is done in a few seconds.
You play the whole playlist right in the app, with no mixer or controller. Tracks flow smoothly into each other, transitions sync on the beat using the cue points from Engine DJ, and the volume is leveled automatically during playback - the app doesn't touch the audio files themselves at all.
From practice I let the app play the whole set right there - it runs in the browser, on a tablet at my desk if I like, going through one track after another on its own. It keeps evening out the volume so a quiet and a loud track don't follow each other abruptly and the whole night feels balanced. It doesn't touch the files themselves at all, only the playback. It also blends tracks smoothly and tries to come in where the transition sounds natural, ideally on the cue points from Engine DJ. And with Recommended left on, it keeps choosing what comes next itself, so the set holds even without me constantly stepping in.
