1 Getting started

What DJanalyzer is and what it does

DJanalyzer is a web app that helps you prepare, play and tidy up your music library from Denon Engine DJ. It's not a classic program you'd have to install in some complicated way – the whole app runs right in your browser (Chrome or Safari).

Purpose: To take the tedious manual work around your library off your shoulders – building playlists, finding duplicates, filling in genres, keeping things in order – so you have more time for the actual playing.

A companion to Engine DJ, not a replacement

DJanalyzer does not replace Engine DJ and doesn't compete with it either. You keep playing on your Denon Prime or SC just like always. DJanalyzer only reads the same Engine DJ database, helps you prepare and tidy up your library and play your playlists – and then writes the changes back into Engine DJ. It's not meant for rekordbox or Serato, only for Engine DJ.

The only one that runs on tablet and phone too

As the only tool for Engine DJ, DJanalyzer also works on Android and iPad. You open your whole library right in the browser on a tablet or phone, no laptop at the booth.

Everything stays with you (privacy-first)

Everything runs locally, right on your device. Your database and your music are never sent anywhere – no uploading to someone else's server. When you close the browser tab, the data is gone and stays only with you.

Everything the app can do

DJanalyzer covers the whole range of work around your Engine DJ library – from preparing a set to tidying up. Here's a brief overview of the main areas. You'll find the details for each feature further on in the guide.

  • Your library in your pocket – open your whole library even on a tablet or phone, install the app like a program, and it works offline too, with no internet.
  • Set preparation – automatically fill out a playlist to fit, get recommendations for more tracks based on your play history, set your own genre order through the night, and import a client's requests (CSV or Spotify).
  • Mix & sound – play your whole playlist right in the app, with smooth crossfading between tracks, beat-matched transitions and automatic loudness levelling. You also see the cue points from Engine DJ.
  • Cleanup & organization – find duplicate tracks, tracks you haven't played in a long time, and files that Engine DJ has lost track of. The app can fill in missing genres and searches even without diacritics.
  • Data & history – an overview of your most-played tracks for a year, a month or a specific event, with different versions of the same track linked together.
Tip: Some features are Free (browsing, searching, playback, stats), while more advanced features and writing changes back into Engine DJ are Pro. For each feature further on in the guide you'll see which plan you need.

What you need before you start

Before you dive into DJanalyzer, check a few things. Nothing complicated – in most cases you already have everything at hand.

1. A library from Engine DJ

DJanalyzer works with your existing library from Denon Engine DJ. Engine DJ stores it in a folder that contains a Database2 subfolder (typically Engine Library/Database2/). Inside is the m.db file – that's the main database DJanalyzer reads.

2. A modern browser

A regular browser is all you need – on a computer or tablet we recommend Chrome, on Apple devices Safari. Nothing else gets installed.

3. Registration and a confirmed e-mail

To use the app you need an account. Registration is free; afterwards you'll get a confirmation e-mail you have to click. Only then is your licence key generated, which is what unlocks the app. Without a confirmed account the app won't start – this applies to the Free plan too.

Note: A full m.db database can easily be ~2 GB (it also contains cover artwork and beat grids). On a tablet or phone, a size like that won't load into the browser's memory. For those devices, have a slim database made – a shrunken copy of just a few megabytes (you'll find how to do it in the section on the slim database).
Tip: On a computer (desktop) you'll handle the full database with ease. Bother with the slim version mainly when you want to carry your library on a tablet or phone.

2 Installation and first launch

Registration and licence key

To be able to use DJanalyzer, you need an account and a licence key. You get a key even for the Free plan – without it the app won't start. The whole thing takes just a few minutes.

Purpose: The licence key pairs the app with your account and unlocks the features according to your plan.

Steps

  1. Register for free on the DJanalyzer website. Just an e-mail and a password.
  2. Confirm your e-mail. A message with a link will arrive in your inbox – click it. That activates your account. (If you don't see the e-mail, check your spam folder.)
  3. Copy your licence key. It's generated after confirmation. You'll find it in your account.
  4. Paste the key into the app – in the Settings / Profile section. That unlocks the app.
Tip: The licence works offline too. Once the key has been verified, the app remembers the last valid licence and works even without internet – say at an event with no signal.
Note: Without a confirmed account the app won't start. So don't skip the confirmation step – it's mandatory even on the Free plan.

Launching the app

Launching is simple – no installation, no downloading. Just open the address in your browser.

Steps

  1. In your browser (Chrome or Safari) open open.djanalyzer.com.
  2. On the first launch the app will prompt you to enter your licence key – paste the one you got after confirming your registration.
  3. Done. The app is unlocked and you can connect your Engine DJ library.
Tip: Bookmark open.djanalyzer.com. Even more convenient, though, is to install the app like a program (PWA) – then you launch it with one click from your desktop, see the next section.
Note: Don't confuse the two addresses – open.djanalyzer.com is the app itself, whereas djanalyzer.com is the marketing site with the feature overview and pricing.

Install as an app (PWA) – desktop, tablet and phone

You can install DJanalyzer as a standalone app with one click. There's no heavy installer like with Engine DJ – the app "sticks" itself into your system from the browser (a technology called a PWA, a Progressive Web App).

Purpose: Instead of hunting for a bookmark in the browser, you launch DJanalyzer like any other program – from your desktop or your app menu.

On a computer (desktop)

  1. Open open.djanalyzer.com in your browser.
  2. Click the install icon in the browser's address bar, or use the "Install app" button right inside the app.
  3. Confirm the installation. DJanalyzer will appear among your apps.

On a tablet and phone

  1. Open open.djanalyzer.com in your browser (Chrome on Android, Safari on iPad/iPhone).
  2. In the browser menu choose "Add to Home Screen".
  3. Confirm. The DJanalyzer icon is added to your home screen.

What you gain

  • Its own icon in the system – launch it like any other app.
  • Its own window without the browser bar – more room for the library itself.
  • Automatic updates – the app keeps itself up to date, nothing for you to deal with.
  • Works offline too – after the first load it starts even without internet.
Tip: Installing as an app is Free and pays off mainly on a tablet you take to events – then you've got the app right there on your home screen.

Offline mode – the app without internet

Once you've loaded DJanalyzer online, it then works completely without internet – on the road, in a club with weak wi-fi, or in airplane mode.

Purpose: To rely on the app always starting – even where no competing app for Engine DJ works, because they need internet.

How it works

On the first online launch the app saves itself into the browser (technically this is handled by what's called a service worker). Your database and music index are local – so browsing the library and playback are available to you even after you close and reopen the app with no signal. Nothing has to be downloaded again.

A paid licence works offline too – the app honours the last valid licence, so it doesn't have to unlock again over the internet every time.

Tip: A typical scenario – a DJ on the road with no signal. The app starts, you've got your library and your prepared tracks right there the whole time, and you play in peace. You don't have to worry about whether there'll be internet on site.
Note: For offline mode to run snappily on a tablet (fast covers, instant playback), it comes down to how the music index is built and stored. The details on tablet performance – including how to build the index once and let it persist – are in the section dedicated to tablet and phone.

3 Library: connecting, slim and indexing

How DJanalyzer works with the Engine DJ database

DJanalyzer doesn't build its own track library. Instead, it reads the very same database your Denon Engine DJ uses – the one Engine DJ stores on your disk or on a USB/SSD. That way you see exactly your own playlists, genres, BPM, keys and play history just as you know them from Prime or SC.

Purpose: DJanalyzer is a companion to Engine DJ, not a replacement. You keep playing from your gear; DJanalyzer just helps you prepare the library, clean it up, play your playlists on a computer or tablet, and (on the Pro plan) write changes back into Engine DJ.

What the m.db, hm.db and stm.db files are

Engine DJ stores its library in the Database2 subfolder inside the Engine Library folder. There you'll find three database files:

  • m.db – the main database. This is where all your tracks, playlists, genres, BPM, keys and cue points live. This is the file DJanalyzer reads first.
  • hm.db – the play history (from history). From it DJanalyzer can tell what you played and when, and can use that to sort a playlist into a real "DJ flow".
  • stm.dbstreaming. Data about streamed tracks (e.g. TIDAL). Streamed tracks can't be played locally, so the player skips them.
Tip: The path to the database typically looks like this: Engine Library/Database2/m.db. If you keep your library on an external SSD or USB, this folder is right there on it.

Everything stays with you

DJanalyzer is a web app, but it reads your database and music exclusively on your own device – through the browser (Chrome / Safari). Nothing is uploaded to any server, nothing is sent anywhere.

Privacy-first: Your data never leaves your computer or tablet. When you close the browser tab, the loaded data is gone. The next time you start up, DJanalyzer simply reads it again from your connected library.

In the following chapters we'll show you how to connect the library, how to make a lightweight slim database (important mainly for tablet and phone), and how to index your music so that tracks can be played, album art and all.

Connecting the library and loading the database (desktop)

For DJanalyzer to show you your tracks and playlists, you have to point it once to where your Engine DJ library is. On a computer it works like this: you pick a folder and the browser reads the database from it. No uploading to the internet – the file stays with you.

Purpose: By connecting the library you give DJanalyzer access to the Database2 folder where m.db lives. From that moment on you see your playlists, genres and history in the app, and you can start searching and playing. Free

Before you start

  • Have Engine DJ closed (or at least don't work on the library in two programs at once).
  • Know where your library is: either in the computer, or on an external USB / SSD. You're looking for the Engine Library folder and the Database2 subfolder inside it.
  • Use Chrome (on a computer it's the most reliable – connecting the folder uses the File System Access technology).

Step by step

  1. Open the app at open.djanalyzer.com and sign in (you need a confirmed account and an entered licence key – even on the Free plan).
  2. On the Dashboard click the main tile to connect the library (folder picker). If you're in Settings, you'll find the same option there too.
  3. The browser opens a window to pick a folder. Find and select the root of your Engine library – that is, the folder that contains the Database2 subfolder (typically Engine Library).
  4. The browser asks whether you want to give the page permission to this folder. Confirm View / Allow access. (This only allows reading the files in the folder, nothing is sent anywhere.)
  5. DJanalyzer finds Database2/m.db in the folder by itself and starts loading it. After a moment you'll see confirmation that the library is connected, and the track and playlist counts fill in.
Tip: Pick the root of the library (the Engine Library folder), not the m.db file directly and not the Database2 subfolder. When you pick the whole root, DJanalyzer can also manage saving the slim database later and finding music files for playback.

What to do if it can't find the database

Fix: If the app reports that it didn't find any database:
  • You picked the wrong folder level. Try again and pick the folder in which you can see the Database2 subfolder (that's the library root Engine Library).
  • If your library is on an external drive or USB, make sure it's connected and visible in the system, and pick Engine Library right there on it.
  • Don't know where the library is? Engine DJ usually stores it in Engine Library/Database2/. You can verify the path right in Engine DJ in the library settings.
  • In a browser that doesn't support folder picking? On a computer use Chrome.
Note: On the first connection, music doesn't play and album art isn't shown yet – that's what indexing is for (see below). Connecting the library first gives you access to the data: tracks, playlists, BPM, keys and history.

Slim database – what it is, why and how to create it

The full Engine DJ database m.db tends to be huge – easily around 2 GB. It's not just a table of tracks: it also has album art and beat-grid blocks baked in (data about each track's rhythmic grid). That's great for Engine DJ, but a database that size won't fit into the browser's memory on a tablet or phone.

Purpose: A slim database is a lightweight copy of your library – it contains only metadata (artist, title, BPM, key, genre, cue points), but without art and without beat-grids. The original ~2 GB thus becomes a file of roughly 5–25 MB. A file like that loads quickly even on a weaker device.

For everyday work in DJanalyzer – searching, browsing playlists, sorting, history – the slim database is perfectly enough.

Plan: loading vs. creating

  • Loading a ready-made slim database is Free – if someone prepares a slim for you (or you make one on the desktop), on the next device you just load it for free.
  • Creating / Exporting a slim database is a Pro feature.

How to create a slim database (desktop)

Slim is made on a computer from the full m.db, because that's where there's enough memory and power.

  1. On the computer connect your Engine library (see the previous chapter) – DJanalyzer must have the full m.db loaded.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Find the Export slim option and run it. Pro
  4. Wait for DJanalyzer to go through the database and produce the lightweight copy. With a large library it takes a while, but it only happens once.
Tip: On a computer the slim database is saved automatically back into the Database2 folder as m_slim.db (and the history as hm_slim.db). Thanks to that, on your next start the lightweight version loads straight away – and the app comes up instantly, with no waiting for 2 GB.
When you need slim: If you want to use DJanalyzer on a tablet or phone, the slim database isn't optional – it's a must, because the full m.db won't load into the device's memory. How to move slim to a tablet is described in the next chapter.

Moving the library to a tablet or phone

As the only tool for Engine DJ, DJanalyzer is usable on Android and iPad too – so you can play from a tablet, say at a wedding ceremony, without a laptop and controller. But for that to work, you have to get the slim database onto the tablet, not the full m.db.

Purpose: Tablets and phones have less memory and slower storage. The full Engine DJ database (~2 GB) won't load into the browser on a tablet. The slim copy (~5–25 MB) will – that's why slim is exactly what you move to the tablet.
Note: Don't put the full m.db on the tablet. Even if you managed to move it, the browser couldn't get it into memory. Always move the slim version (m_slim.db).

Step by step

  1. On the computer connect the Engine library and in Settings run Export slim. Pro
  2. Once it's done, you have the slim available two ways: it's saved into the Database2 folder (as m_slim.db) and at the same time it's offered for download as a file.
  3. Move the file to the tablet – via USB cable, the cloud (e.g. a shared folder), or however you're used to.
  4. On the tablet you then have two options for how to use the slim:
    • Put it into the library: copy m_slim.db into Engine Library/Database2 on the tablet, then in DJanalyzer connect that folder as the library – the slim loads automatically.
    • Load it directly: in DJanalyzer on the tablet, open / pick the transferred slim file directly.
  5. After loading (which is Free) you have the whole library on the tablet to browse, search and play.
Tip: Loading a ready-made slim database is Free on every device. Only its creation is paid (Pro), so you make slim once on the computer and then load it wherever you need.
Note – touch mode: For DJanalyzer to behave "tablet-style" on a tablet (large elements, fullscreen player, bottom navigation), you need Tablet/Phone mode, which is Pro. On the Free plan the app runs on a tablet in the desktop layout, but full touch mode points you to the pricing page.
Playback on the tablet: For the tablet to also play tracks and show album art, you still need to index the music (see the next chapter). On a tablet we recommend building the index once, even overnight – then it's saved and comes up quickly next time.

Indexing the music library (step by step)

Connecting the database shows you a list of tracks and playlists – but for DJanalyzer to be able to play tracks and show their album art, it first has to go through your music files and build an index from them. The index is basically a list of references to where on the disk each track lies.

Purpose: Indexing links the records from the database with the actual music files in your library. Thanks to that, the built-in player (MP3 / FLAC / WAV / M4A) works and album art is shown. Without an index DJanalyzer sees the tracks in the list, but can't play them.
Slower tablets and phones (4 GB RAM and less): Here indexing can easily take several hours – it depends on the number of files and subfolders in the Music folder. So do it well in advance, ideally before a gig, not at the last minute. And only run it when it's truly needed: after clearing the cache (site data) or when you add a new playlist or new tracks. Otherwise leave it be – the saved index restores itself quickly.

How the index is saved and restored

  • The finished index is saved (persisted) to the browser's storage. So it isn't rebuilt from scratch every time.
  • On the next start the index is quickly restored from storage – on the order of ~5 seconds – instead of going through the whole library again.
  • That's why the first track after a fresh open of the app comes up in ~5 seconds (that's the index restoring), but every one after that plays instantly.
Tip: The five-second delay on the first track after start is normal – that's the index restoring from memory. It's not an error or a freeze.

How to start and control indexing

You'll find everything in Settings in the indexing section. You have these buttons and a progress indicator available (you can even see which folder it's currently processing):

  1. Open Settings and find the Indexing section.
  2. Click Build index – DJanalyzer starts going through the music files in your library.
  3. Watch the progress indicator and the folder currently being processed. At any time you can:
    • Pause – when you need to free up performance (e.g. during a set), the progress stops and stays saved.
    • Resume – it picks up where you left off.
    • Reindex – builds the index again from the start (use it only when something is broken or you've significantly reorganized the library).
  4. Once it's done, that's it – the index saves itself and playback and album art work.

When you add new tracks (reindexing)

Don't rebuild the whole index over a few new tracks. DJanalyzer can just find what's new.

Tip: For newly added tracks use "Find new" reindexing – it goes through only what was added, and it's significantly faster than a complete index rebuild.

E-mail notification

With a large library, indexing can run for a long time and you don't have to sit there for it. DJanalyzer can let you know when it's done.

  • In Settings you turn on an e-mail notification when indexing finishes.
  • The message comes to your account e-mail (the one you registered with).
Note – don't clear "site data": The saved index lives in the browser's storage. When you clear site data in the browser, the index is cleared too and would have to be rebuilt entirely (a needless load on the CPU). If you want to free up space, clear only "cached images and files", not site data.

Troubleshooting

Indexing takes very long: With a large library (say 24,000 tracks) the first complete index can take a long time – on a tablet even hours, due to slow storage. Recommendation: build the index just once (overnight is fine), then it's saved and next time it just restores quickly. Handle new tracks with "Find new" reindexing, not a full rebuild.
The first track loads ~5 s, then it's fast: This is normal behavior – after start the index restores from memory. Every track after that plays instantly.
Chrome on the tablet "doesn't respond" during indexing: During start or indexing the browser may hang for a moment (a system message about an unresponsive app). It's not a crash – click Wait and in a few seconds the operation finishes.
Album art doesn't show: DJanalyzer looks for art through the index and based on the embedded art in the track. If a particular track has no embedded art, it won't show – that's not an indexing error.

4 Tablet and phone – performance and specifics

Why running on a tablet and phone is different

DJanalyzer runs on a tablet and phone exactly the same as on a computer – your whole Engine DJ library right in the browser, without a laptop at the booth. A few things behave differently on these devices, though, and it's good to know about them up front so nothing surprises you at a gig.

Purpose: To understand why indexing and the first start take longer on a tablet than on a computer, and how to plan around it so your library is always ready.

Slower storage

Tablets and phones (especially on Android) access files through the SAF system (Storage Access Framework). It's significantly slower than the disk in a computer. This shows up mainly during the first indexing of music – going through thousands of files takes much more time. On a large library (e.g. 24,000 tracks) it can easily take hours on a tablet.

Limited memory and low-memory mode

The full Engine DJ database m.db easily runs to ~2 GB (it also contains artwork and beat-grid blobs) and simply won't load into the browser's memory on a tablet. Therefore:

  • onto a tablet/phone you carry a slim copy of the database (metadata only, a few MB) – see the section on updating the library;
  • the app has an internal "low-memory" mode (active on devices up to ~4 GB RAM): it handles audio via the saved index, not by live-traversing the whole folder tree, to save memory.

Touch modes are Pro

The optimized Tablet and Phone touch modes (large elements, fullscreen player, bottom navigation, playlist right at the top edge) are part of the Pro plan.

  • On the Free plan the app runs on every device in the desktop layout – so you can try it out even on a tablet.
  • On a real tablet or phone, though, Free sends you to the pricing page when you switch to touch mode – this mode is paid.
Tip: For smaller gigs (a wedding ceremony, say) a tablet fully replaces a laptop for you – you connect it to a speaker via Bluetooth and let it play your prepared tracks, smooth crossfades and all, with no controller.
Fix: "Free on the tablet sends me to the pricing page" → that's correct, the Tablet/Phone touch mode is Pro. On a computer Free works fully.

Recommended indexing procedure on a tablet

For the app to play tracks and show album art on a tablet, it first has to build an index of the music files – a list of references to all your tracks. On a tablet this is the most demanding one-off operation, but if you do it right, you've got peace and quiet for a long time after.

Purpose: To build the index once and leave it saved (persisted) in the device, so the next starts get by without re-traversing the whole library.

Steps

  1. On the tablet open Settings → Build index.
  2. Start indexing and let it run. During the process you see an indicator and the folder currently being processed.
  3. With a large library, be patient – on the tablet's slow storage it can take hours. Ideally build the index once, overnight is fine, and let the tablet work.
  4. Turn on an e-mail notification when it's done (Settings → notifications) – once indexing finishes, you get an e-mail to your account address, so you don't have to stand over the tablet.
  5. That's it. The index has been saved to the browser's storage and next time it just restores quickly.

You can Pause indexing at any time and Resume later – say when you need the tablet for something else in the meantime. You don't have to start from the beginning.

Tip: After a fresh load the first track takes ~5 seconds (the app is restoring the index from memory), then it plays instantly. It's not an error, just a brief preparation at the start of the session.
Note: When Chrome on the tablet "freezes" for a moment during start or indexing (it shows a dialog that the page isn't responding), click Wait. In a few seconds it carries on by itself – it's not a crash.
Fix: "Indexing takes long" → a large library on slow storage is normal. Build the index once (overnight), then it persists. For new tracks don't do a full rebuild anymore, just a reindex (see the next section).

Updating the library – adding new tracks

Your library grows over time – you buy new tracks, rename something. On a tablet you get these changes in fastest with a new slim database from the computer and by reloading the database – with no waiting for another long indexing.

Purpose: To get new tracks into the library on the tablet quickly, without a multi-hour reindex of the whole library.

1. Update the metadata with a new slim database

The app on the tablet takes its metadata (artist, title, BPM, key, genre, cue points) from the slim database. When tracks were added on the computer:

  1. On the computer go to Settings → Export slim and make a new slim copy. Pro
  2. Move the resulting file (m_slim.db) to the tablet into the Engine Library/Database2 folder, or load it directly in the app on the tablet.

2. To make the new tracks appear

After loading the new slim database on the tablet, reload the database. The new tracks appear in the lists right away and will play (album art and instant playback are filled in for them on the fly). This is fast – nothing is traversed again.

A full reindex = going through the whole library again: If you want to hard-index the new files (Settings → indexing → "Find new tracks (reindex)"), the app goes through the whole library from the start – it clears the list of finished folders and traverses all folders and subfolders again. On a slow tablet/phone it can therefore take just as long as the very first indexing (hours, easily) – what's slow is the folder traversal over storage itself, not reading the new files. Run it only when it's truly necessary.
Tip: Creating a slim database is Pro, but loading a ready-made slim is Free. So go ahead and make slim on the computer and just upload it to the tablet.
Tip: The fastest route to new tracks is therefore a new slim + reloading the database. Leave a full reindex only for a moment when you have time (and quiet before a gig), because it goes through the whole library from the start.

Performance optimization on slow devices

On a weaker tablet or phone you can influence performance a lot by how you treat the device. The most important rule: let the app use what it has already built once, and don't clear it by accident.

Purpose: To keep the app on a tablet snappy and avoid needlessly loading the CPU by repeatedly rebuilding the index.

1. Let the index persist

The index is saved to the browser's storage and the next session quickly restores (about 5 s) from it instead of re-traversing the whole library. Leave it be – it's your biggest saving of both time and performance.

2. Don't clear "site data" – only the cache

This is the most common mistake on a tablet. In the browser settings:

  • DON'T CLEAR the "site data" item (page data / app data) – it would clear the saved index and the app would have to build it all over again (= a long load on the CPU).
  • When you need to free up space, clear only "cached images and files" – those won't wipe the index.

3. Close the rest

  • Close other tabs and background apps – that frees up the memory the app will use for the library and playback.
  • Keep the device plugged into the charger during a long indexing, so it doesn't run flat or drop into power-saving mode.
Tip: Stick to the principle of "build once, use forever": build the index overnight, let it persist, and use only the "Find new" reindex for additions. Then the app is fast on a tablet even with large libraries.
Fix: "After clearing the cache the app loads the CPU" → site data got cleared (and the index with it), now it's rebuilding. Next time clear only cached images and files, not site data.
Fix: "Black screen or the app crashed" → reload the page (Ctrl+Shift+R). The app also has automatic recovery, so it usually bounces back on its own.

5 Everyday use (a tour of the views)

Dashboard (overview)

The Dashboard is the home screen you see when you launch the app. You'll find tiles for every feature here and a quick jump-off point to each view. Each tile carries a plan badge (Free / Pro), so you can tell at a glance what your plan gives you.

Purpose: Keep an overview of the app in one place and get everywhere from here – including the initial library setup.

How to use

  1. After launching the app, go through the tiles – each one leads to a single view (Search, Playlists, Albums, History…).
  2. If you're just starting out, the Dashboard guides you through the initial setup: connecting your Engine DJ library and (on a tablet) exporting or loading the slim database.
  3. Click a feature tile and the app switches you to the matching view.
Tip: The badges on the tiles are the fastest way to find out which feature is Free and which is Pro – no need to dig through the pricing page.

Search

Search is your fastest way to find anything in your library. You type part of a title, album, artist or path and the app instantly suggests results – regardless of accents and letter case.

Purpose: Find a specific track in a flash even without the exact title, and immediately see which playlists you already have it in.

How to use

  1. Type part of what you're looking for into the search box – artist, title, album or part of the path.
  2. You don't have to worry about accents or capital letters: "rolnicky", "Rolničky" or just part of the title all return the same thing.
  3. Narrow the results down with filters: genre, BPM range, local vs. streamed (TIDAL) tracks.
  4. In the Playlist column next to each result you see which playlists that track is in.
  5. Clicking a playlist next to a result takes you straight to it – handy when it holds other tracks that fit the one you're currently playing.
Tip: The Playlist column is great when you're building a set – from a single track you jump to the whole context you use it in, and you have somewhere to build on from there.
Tip: The search state is cached (saved), so when you leave a result and come back, you have it right back without searching again.

Plan: Search, including accent-insensitive search, is Free.

Playlists

In the Playlists view you browse your Engine DJ playlists and get them ready for a gig. You can sort them by ready-made presets, drag tracks around by hand, have a playlist filled in automatically, edit metadata and import a client's requests.

Purpose: Prepare and tidy up your playlists exactly the way you'll play them – and then (in Pro) write the changes back into Engine DJ.

Sorting by presets

With a single click you sort a playlist by:

  • BPM – from slower to faster (or the other way round);
  • Camelot key – harmonically, so tracks flow into each other by key;
  • DJ-flow from history – based on how the tracks actually worked back-to-back at your past gigs.

Manual edits and filling in

  • Drag-and-drop: grab tracks and drag them into the order that suits you.
  • Auto-fill Pro: pick a few tracks, set the playing time and the app automatically fills in the rest from your library (taking style, tempo, key and history into account).
  • Inline editing Pro: edit metadata (title, artist, genre…) right in the list.
  • Filling in genres Pro: for tracks without a genre, the app suggests a fitting one.
  • Deleting and renaming playlists.

Importing a client's requests

  1. Upload a track list from the client (CSV) or a Spotify playlist.
  2. The app goes through your library and automatically links the recognized tracks to your Engine DJ database.
  3. For ambiguous versions it offers a check, and missing tracks are listed separately.
Note: Writing changes back into Engine DJ is Pro (saving the order, deleting, renaming, new playlists, editing metadata). Before every write the app makes a backup of m.db, so you won't lose your data.
Tip: The DJ-flow from history preset is the best starting point – it sorts the playlist by what already worked for you in front of a crowd, and you just fine-tune it.

Albums

The Albums view shows your library organized by album instead of by individual tracks. It comes in handy when you're looking for music by record rather than by a specific title.

Purpose: Quickly browse your library by album and play a whole album with one click.

How to use

  1. Open the Albums view – you'll see your library sorted by album.
  2. With a single click you add a whole album to a playlist or to the playback queue.
  3. You run through it from start to finish without playing the tracks one by one.
Tip: Albums that differ only by accents or letter case are automatically merged into one – so your library doesn't look fragmented.

Plan: Browsing albums and playing a whole album is Free.

Never played, Not played for X days and Missing files

These are cleanup views that help you keep your library in shape. They show you tracks you haven't touched in a long time, as well as files Engine DJ has lost track of – ideally you sort it all out calmly before a gig, not in front of the crowd.

Purpose: Keep your library under control – know what you don't play, and spot missing files before they catch you out on the floor.

What each view shows

  • Never played – tracks you have in your library but have never played.
  • Not played for X days – tracks you haven't used in a long time; a good source for "dusting off" forgotten music.
  • Missing files – tracks where Engine DJ has lost the path to the file (you moved or deleted it, disconnected the drive, etc.).
Tip: Always go through the Missing files view before a bigger gig – it saves you the nasty surprise of a key track failing to load.

Plan: These cleanup views are Free.

History and TOP tracks

The History & TOP tracks view pulls an overview from your actual gigs of what works best for you on the dance floor. The app gets this data from your Engine DJ history and evaluates it itself.

Purpose: See which tracks really land for you and build your next sets accordingly.

How to use

  1. Open the History & TOP tracks view.
  2. Switch the range: year, month, or a specific gig.
  3. The app lists your most-played tracks for the chosen period. (The TOP tracks chart is unlocked with sharing consent – see below.)
Tip: The app merges different versions of the same track, so the stats aren't fragmented and you really see what works for you. These same history figures also power the DJ-flow preset in Playlists and the recommendations in the player.

TOP tracks and sharing consent

You see the raw play history (individual plays and gigs) right away. The TOP tracks chart, however, is unlocked with your voluntary sharing consent: instead of paying, you send an anonymized summary of your most-played tracks and that unlocks the chart. It helps build global statistics and sharpen recommendations for every DJ. This applies in every plan – it is not a paid feature.

What is sent (anonymized): artist and track title; genre, BPM and key (Camelot); play count, rating and length; year of first and last play.
What NEVER leaves your computer: file paths and file names, exact play times and gig/session names, your music library (m.db) and audio files, and any personal data. You can withdraw consent anytime in Settings – that deletes your statistics on the server.

Plan: History and TOP tracks are Free – the TOP tracks chart is unlocked with voluntary consent to share an anonymized summary (not by paying).

Built-in player

The built-in player lets you play a whole playlist right in the app – without a mixer or controller. All you need is a computer and within moments you hear how the tracks flow into each other. Great for prepping a set at home in peace.

Purpose: Listen to a prepared playlist and check that the tracks flow well before the gig.

Supported formats

MP3, FLAC, WAV, M4A. Streamed TIDAL tracks are flagged in the list and skipped during playback (only local audio plays).

Controls

  • Play / Pause, previous / next track.
  • Clickable progress bar – click to jump to any point in the track.
  • Volume and mute.

Three flow modes

  • Sequential – tracks play one after another in the playlist order;
  • Shuffle – the app picks the order at random;
  • Single only – plays one track and stops.

Cue points from Engine DJ

You see cue points, intros and marked spots from Engine DJ right in the progress bar. That lets you jump quickly to the chorus, the drop or an important part of the track without opening Engine DJ.

Fullscreen player and Recommended (tablet/phone)

The fullscreen player is a large, touch-friendly version of the player made for tablet and phone – exactly what you want at the booth. A big cover, the track's metadata and large controls, with bottom navigation. It also includes a Recommended tab with tips on what to play next.

Purpose: Control playback with a finger from a distance at the booth and have smart recommendations for follow-up tracks at hand.

What it offers

  • A big cover of the current track in the middle, with previews of the previous and next track on the sides;
  • the track's metadata (BPM, key, length, rating, file type) and the playback progress;
  • large controls and bottom navigation – comfortable by touch and in the dark.

The Recommended tab

The Recommended tab offers you the top 60 most similar tracks to the one currently playing. The app scores the recommendations by:

  • matching artist;
  • genre family;
  • BPM window (close tempo);
  • harmonic Camelot key (matching key);
  • co-occurrence in playlists;
  • back-to-back flow in the history of your DJ sessions.

Before the app computes the recommendations, a spinner turns for a moment – then the list appears.

Tip: Recommended is your "lifeline" at the booth – when the dance floor is working and you don't want to think, the app instantly offers tracks that worked for you after the current one in the past.

Plan: The fullscreen player (Tablet/Phone mode) and track recommendations are Pro.

Duplicates

The Duplicates view finds tracks you have more than once in your library – even in cases where they have a different title, a different version or slightly edited metadata. For each pair/group it also recommends which copy to keep.

Purpose: Rid your library of needless duplicates so it stays clean and doesn't waste space.

How to use

  1. Open the Duplicates view and let the app scan your library.
  2. For each group you see the number of copies and the app immediately marks the preferred version (best score – local, lossless, largest file).
  3. Click the rows that are extra – that marks them for deletion (keep one copy in each group unmarked).
  4. Delete marked Pro – the app removes the marked tracks straight from the Engine DJ library and from every playlist. It makes a database backup automatically before the first deletion.
  5. Or, instead of deleting, just export the list (Export marked / Export CSV) and delete the files yourself in your file manager.
What deletion actually does: The Delete marked button removes the selected tracks from the Engine DJ library and from every playlist they appear in. The audio files on disk stay untouched – delete those yourself if you want. An m.db backup is always made before writing, so it can be undone. If you have Engine DJ open on the same database, close it first so it doesn't overwrite the change.
Tip: The detection is smart – it recognizes a duplicate even with a different title or version, so it spots things you'd miss by hand.

Plan: Finding duplicates and marking and exporting the list is Free. Deleting the marked ones in the app (writes to m.db, with a backup) is Pro.

Settings

In Settings you have everything around library connection, preparing data for a tablet, indexing, notifications and database maintenance in one place. You come back here during the first setup and any time later when you want to check or update your library.

Purpose: Manage the connection to your Engine DJ library, the index status and the health of the database.

Library connection

You pick the folder of your Engine library (the root, where the Database2 subfolder is). The app reads the full Database2/m.db database. Everything runs locally – nothing is sent anywhere.

Export slim

Creates a shrunk copy of the database (metadata only, a few MB) for tablet/phone. Pro The slim is saved into Database2 and downloaded at the same time, so you can transfer it to a tablet. (Loading a finished slim is Free.)

Indexing

Here you build and manage the index of music files:

  • Build index / Pause / Resume / Reindex;
  • "Find new" – a fast reindex just for newly added tracks;
  • a progress indicator and the folder currently being processed.

Notifications

You turn on an e-mail notification once indexing finishes – it arrives at your account's address, so you don't have to wait by the device (ideal during a nighttime index on a tablet).

Database health and maintenance

Runs a consistency analysis of your m.db – it uncovers orphaned links and fragmentation. It runs in the browser over the connected library (File System Access).

Diagnostics

The app's diagnostic log – handy when you need to provide something while troubleshooting an issue.

Note: Database health needs a connected Engine library. When it reports that it can't see m.db, connect the library in Settings first – the analysis runs through it (FSA).
Tip: On desktop the slim is saved automatically back into Database2 (m_slim.db, hm_slim.db), so the next session loads instantly.

Features: Library in your pocket

This group of features turns DJanalyzer into a portable library. You open your whole Engine DJ library in the browser even where you couldn't manage with a laptop – on a tablet or phone at the booth, on the road, and even without signal.

Runs on Android and iPad Pro

DJanalyzer is the only tool for Engine DJ that can also run on Android and iPad. You open your entire library right in the browser on a tablet or phone, no laptop at the booth. Everything runs locally on your device and nothing is sent anywhere. On a tablet you can also switch to large rows for finger control and readability from a distance.

Purpose: Keep your whole library at hand on a lightweight device and skip lugging a laptop to smaller gigs.

Example: At a smaller gig you open the library on a tablet right at the booth, swipe through the playlist with your finger and instantly see what to play next. At a wedding ceremony you connect the tablet to a speaker over Bluetooth and let your prepared tracks play with smooth crossfades – no laptop and no controller.

Tip: Turn on large rows so the title and artist stay readable even in the dark and from a distance.

Creating a slim database Pro

From the full Engine DJ database the app builds a shrunken copy – metadata only (artist, title, BPM, key, genre, cue points), without artwork and beat-grids. A roughly 2 GB file thus becomes one of just a few megabytes that fits into memory even on a tablet or phone, where the full database wouldn't load into the browser at all. Engine DJ offers nothing like this.

Purpose: Get your huge Engine library onto devices with little memory, where the full database wouldn't fit.

Example: The full Engine database is enormous and won't load into the browser on a tablet. So you have a slim version made – it contains only what you need for prep and playback, and instead of gigabytes it's a few megabytes. You drop that onto your phone and tablet and have your library with you all the time.

Tip: The app can save the slim file back into the Database2 folder, so next time it starts up instantly. Mind the difference: creating a slim database is Pro, but simply loading a finished slim database is free.

Install as an app (offline) Free

You can install DJanalyzer as a standalone app with one click – an icon in your system and its own window without the browser bar – with no heavy desktop install like Engine DJ. It works offline and updates itself. On phone and tablet via "Add to Home Screen".

Purpose: Launch the app like any other program, with its own icon and window, instead of hunting for a browser bookmark.

Example: You don't want to look up the app in your bookmarks every time, so you install it as a program with one click. It has its own icon and window and you launch it like any other app. It works without a connection too, so at a gig you can rely on it starting up even when the wi-fi is lousy – and it updates itself in the background along the way.

Full offline mode Free

The app works completely without internet too – on the road, in a club with weak wi-fi, or in airplane mode. Once your library is loaded, you have browsing and playback available even after closing and reopening the app without signal; nothing has to be downloaded again. Your music and database stay on the device, so at a gig you can rely on the app always starting up – even where no competing app for Engine DJ works.

Purpose: The certainty that the app will start and play at the booth, whatever the internet is doing.

Example: At a gig you have no signal at all and the app still starts up normally even after being closed – you have your library and prepared tracks at hand the whole time. You don't worry about whether there'll be internet on site; whatever you load once, you keep with you for good.

Tip: Even a paid licence works offline – the app recognizes the last valid one. You just need to verify it online once.

Display mode for tablet and phone Pro

An optimized touch interface for tablet and phone: large controls, a fullscreen player with cover art and waveform, bottom navigation, and the playlist right up at the top edge. Everything is tailored to finger control and readability from a distance at the booth, not to a mouse.

Purpose: Control the app with your finger at the booth using large elements instead of tiny desktop buttons.

Example: At the booth you don't want to tap tiny buttons. In tablet and phone mode you get large elements, a fullscreen player and the playlist right at the top, so you control everything with your finger and can read the title and artist even in the dark and from a distance. You switch to it with one click and the app behaves like a native phone app.

Note: In the Free version the app runs in desktop layout on every device; the optimized touch modes Tablet and Phone are in the Pro plan. On a real tablet, Free therefore sends you to the pricing page.

Features: Set preparation

This group helps you put together a playlist tailored to the gig. Instead of long manual assembling, the app suggests what to play, fills in the rest of the set, and imports the client's requests – always with an eye to what actually worked for you at past gigs.

Automatic playlist fill (auto-fill) Pro

You pick a few tracks, set the playing length, and the app automatically fills in the rest of the playlist from your library. While assembling it takes into account style, tempo, key, and the history of tracks you actually played, so the playlist feels natural from start to finish.

Purpose: Have a finished base for your set within a few minutes that you then just fine-tune to your taste.

Example: You pick a few tracks to build off of, set the playing length, and the app fills in the rest of the playlist from your library on its own. It links tracks by style, energy, and tempo while also drawing on what worked for you at past gigs.

Recommended tracks based on play history Pro

The app continuously recommends further tracks based on the history of your past gigs. It doesn't just offer a similar genre or tempo, but mainly tracks that worked well for you in the past after the currently playing one.

Purpose: Know what to play next without having to think about it – and link tracks the way that already proved itself in front of a crowd.

Example: When you see the floor is working, you don't have to think about what to play next. The app suggests tracks on its own that worked well for you in the past after the one currently playing. It draws on the real history of your gigs, so it doesn't suggest just a similar genre or tempo, but mainly a genuine follow-up.

Tip: You'll also find recommendations in the fullscreen player under the "Recommended" tab – the top tracks most similar to the current one.

Your own genre flow through the night Free

You set your own flow for the night and the app builds the playlist accordingly. You can define the order of genres, the energy, and the progression of the night exactly to your playing style. The app then sorts the playlist by your logic, not alphabetically.

Purpose: Build a set by your own dramaturgy of the night instead of alphabetical sorting.

Example: Every gig plays out differently, so you set your own order of genres based on how you want to build the night. At a wedding you might start with calmer tracks, then move into oldies and later into a more danceable part. The app then sorts the playlist by your logic.

Import the client's requests into the playlist Pro

You upload a track list from the client or a Spotify playlist and the app goes through your library on its own. Recognized tracks it automatically links with the database in Engine DJ, for unclear versions it offers a check, and missing tracks it lists separately.

Purpose: Get the client's requests into the playlist in a moment, straight from your Engine DJ database.

Example: The client sends you a track list, you upload it into the app, and it goes through your library on its own. Tracks it safely recognizes it automatically links with your database, for unclear versions it asks, and missing tracks it lists separately. That way you instantly see what you have and what you still need to track down.

Tip: It works both ways – you can export the results and playlists back to CSV (including for DJRezervace.cz).

Features: Mix and sound

This group can play your whole playlist right in the app – without a mixer, controller, or cables. It links tracks smoothly, levels the volume, and keeps the beat, so you can prepare and check the night at home in peace.

Smooth transitions between tracks Pro

The app automatically creates smooth transitions between tracks instead of hard cuts. It adjusts the crossfade length according to the difference in tempo and the character of the tracks, so the playlist feels as natural as possible.

Purpose: So the playlist doesn't feel like randomly queued tracks one after another, but like a continuous mix.

Example: You set the transition length; when tracks are close in tempo, the app keeps it at full length, and with a bigger difference it shortens it on its own so the transition feels natural.

Beat-matched transitions (beat-align) Pro experimental

If you have cue points marked in Engine DJ, the app tries to use them to sync the following tracks to the beat. The goal is for the transitions to feel similar to a live mix.

Experimental feature – not yet reliable. For a clean blend the app has to catch the exact same beat in both tracks and both have to have the same BPM; this doesn't always succeed yet (occasionally it doesn't catch that same beat). On a tablet it's even more sensitive, because the track doesn't load instantly but with a delay. So treat beat-align more as a preview of where we're heading.
Purpose: Link the next track right on the beat, so the transition sounds like it's from a live DJ.

Example: When you have cue points marked in your tracks in Engine DJ, the app tries to use them to link the next track on the beat – once the feature is fine-tuned, the transition will feel natural and the whole playlist will hold its energy much like a live mix.

Automatic volume leveling Pro

During playback the app automatically levels the volume between tracks (LUFS), with a limiter too, so the playlist doesn't feel jumpy. It doesn't touch the audio files in any way, it only adjusts playback in real time.

Purpose: So quiet and loud tracks can follow one another without unpleasant jumps in volume.

Example: Quiet and loud tracks follow one another without unpleasant jumps. During playback the app automatically levels the volume, so the playlist feels more balanced.

Tip: No worries about your originals – the app never touches the files themselves, it only adjusts live playback.

This group keeps your library clean and tidy. It finds duplicates, shows what you haven't played in a long time or what's missing its file, fills in genres, and makes searching and browsing by album easier – ideally before the gig, not in front of the crowd.

Finding duplicate tracks Free

The app finds duplicate tracks even in cases where they have a different title, a different version, or slightly tweaked metadata. At the same time it recommends which copy to keep. You see the complete list and the counts for free.

Purpose: Quickly and clearly clean your library of the same tracks in multiple copies.

Example: Before a gig you let the app go through your library and within a moment you see where you have the same track more than once, even if it has a slightly different title or a different version. The app also recommends which copy to keep.

Deleting and exporting: You can either delete the marked duplicates right in the app (the Delete marked button, Pro) – they're removed from the Engine DJ library and from every playlist, and an m.db backup is made first (the audio files on disk stay). Or just export the list (Export marked / CSV) and delete the files yourself in your file manager.

Check for unplayed and missing tracks Free

It shows tracks you haven't used in a long time, as well as files that Engine DJ can't find. That way you have your library under control before the gig.

Purpose: Uncover "dead" tracks and missing files at home in peace, not during the gig in front of the crowd.

Example: The app shows you tracks you have in your library but haven't used in a long time, as well as tracks where the file is missing or Engine DJ can't find it. Then you don't have to deal with it during the gig.

Automatic genre fill Pro

For tracks without a genre filled in, the app automatically suggests a suitable classification based on similar tracks, artists, and versions in your library.

Purpose: Fill in missing genres in bulk instead of manually typing each track in separately.

Example: When some of your tracks have no genre filled in, the app suggests on its own what probably belongs there. It draws on similar tracks, artists, and versions you already have in your library. You just review and confirm the suggestions.

Play a whole album with one click Free

With one click you add a whole album to the playlist or play queue. Ideal for quickly browsing music by album instead of individual tracks. Albums that differ only by diacritics or letter case the app also merges together.

Purpose: Quickly browse and play music by whole albums instead of track by track.

Example: When you're looking for music by album, you don't have to play tracks one by one. With one click you add a whole album to the queue and quickly go through it from start to finish.

Search without diacritics Free

Search works even without the exact title or diacritics. The app finds a track by part of the title, album, or artist, even when you only remember the name roughly. It ignores diacritics and letter case.

Purpose: Find a track in a moment, even when you only remember the name roughly.

Example: When you search for something, you don't have to worry about the exact title or diacritics. It doesn't matter whether you type "rolnicky", "Rolničky", or just part of the title – the app finds the track in a moment.

Playlists shown next to a track in search results Free

When you find a track in search, you see right next to it which playlists you have it in. With one click you jump into such a playlist – for instance because it has other tracks that suit the one currently playing. From a single track you quickly get to the whole context in which you use it, and you have somewhere to keep building the set from.

Purpose: From one found track, quickly get to the whole playlist it belongs to, and have somewhere to build the set from.

Example: You find a track, see that it's in your wedding playlist for instance, and jump straight into it – usually you have other tracks there that fit together. Instead of racking your brain about where you put similar things, the app leads you to them on its own.

Features: Data and history

This group shows you what actually works for you on the dance floor. From the history of your past gigs it builds an overview of your most-played tracks that you build off of when preparing your next set.

Most-played track statistics Free

The app automatically builds an overview of your most-played tracks for the year, the month, or a specific gig. It can merge different versions of the same track together, so you quickly see what actually works for you on the dance floor. The TOP tracks chart itself is unlocked with voluntary sharing consent for an anonymized summary (not by paying) – only an anonymous summary is sent (artist, title, genre, BPM, counts), never your file paths or your library; you can withdraw consent anytime in Settings.

Purpose: See in the data what really kills it on your dance floor, and what to build off of when preparing your next set.

Example: The app shows you which tracks you played most often over the past year (or month, or a single gig). It merges different versions of the same track together, so you quickly see what really kills it on your dance floor.

Tip: This data also powers track recommendations and playlist auto-fill – the more you play, the better the app learns your style.

7 Solutions to the most common problems

Solutions to the most common problems

Here you'll find the most common situations you may run into and what to do about them. Most of the time it's not an error – the app is just preparing something in the background. For each problem there's a symptom (what you see), a cause (why it happens), and a fix (what to do).

The first track plays with a delay (~5 s), then it's fine

Cause: After a fresh load, the app first restores the index of your music files from the browser's memory. The first playback therefore waits a moment; once the index is ready, everything plays instantly.

Fix: Nothing to do – it's normal behavior. Wait those few seconds, it's only once at the start of the session. If you want tracks available right away, give the app a moment after loading the library before you click play.

Cover art (track covers) doesn't show up

Cause: The app takes covers from two places – from the index and from the image "baked" right into the track (embedded cover). When a particular track has no embedded cover, there's nothing to show.

Fix: For tracks without an embedded cover, the cover simply won't appear – the app doesn't download any from the internet (everything runs locally). If covers matter to you, add them to the files in your tag editor (e.g. Mp3tag) and reload the library. For the other tracks, covers appear automatically once indexing finishes.

Chrome on a tablet "isn't responding" (on startup or during indexing)

Cause: During a demanding operation (startup, building the index) the browser on a tablet may freeze for a moment and the system shows a message that the app isn't responding (an ANR). It's not a crash – the app is just working intensively and a slower tablet can't keep up with rendering it.

Fix: Click Wait and give it a few seconds – the operation will finish on its own. Don't close the app or the browser. For peace of mind: run the demanding first indexing when you don't need the tablet (overnight is fine).

After clearing the cache, the app loads the processor and rebuilds everything

Cause: There are two different things to clear in the browser. When you clear site data, the saved music index gets cleared too – and it has to be rebuilt from scratch, which loads the processor.

Fix: Clear only "Cached images and files". Don't clear "Site data / App data" for the domain open.djanalyzer.com – otherwise you lose the index and the app will have to rebuild it. If it has already happened, just let indexing finish in peace (once) and it will be fast again afterward.

Black screen or "the app crashed"

Cause: An isolated rendering freeze – typically after a long operation or switching between apps on a tablet.

Fix: Reload the app (hard refresh) – on desktop Ctrl+Shift+R, on a tablet pull the page down or close and open the app window. The index and database aren't lost in the process. The app also has automatic recovery, so it often fixes itself.

Indexing takes a very long time

Cause: A large library (even tens of thousands of tracks) on slow storage – typically a tablet – takes a long time to go through. The first complete indexing can thus take hours on a tablet.

Fix: Build the index once and let it finish – ideally overnight, when you don't need the device. The index gets saved (persisted), so the next startup is fast (about 5 s to restore). You can pause indexing anytime in Settings and resume it later. For tracks added later, don't rebuild everything – use reindexing ("Find new"), which is much faster. You can have an e-mail sent to you once indexing finishes.

In the Free version the tablet sends me to the pricing page

Cause: The touch modes Tablet/Phone (large elements, fullscreen player, bottom navigation) are features of the Pro plan. In the Free version the app runs on every device, but in desktop layout – and on a real tablet it therefore refers you to the pricing page for touch mode.

Fix: It's not an error – Free works fully on desktop (computer, laptop). If you want comfortable control and a fullscreen player right on a tablet/phone (e.g. at a ceremony), the Pro plan is needed. On desktop you have the full value of the app in Free with no limits.

Database health reports that it can't see m.db

Cause: The Database health and maintenance analysis runs right in the browser over your connected Engine library (via file access). When the library isn't connected, the tool has no database to access.

Fix: First connect your Engine library – in Settings (or on the Dashboard) select the root folder that contains the Database2 subfolder with m.db. After connecting, run the analysis again. This feature makes sense on desktop, where the app can read the selected folder.

The full m.db won't load on a tablet (it freezes or crashes)

Cause: The full m.db can easily be ~2 GB (it also contains covers and beat-grid data). A tablet has limited browser memory, so such a large file won't load into it.

Fix: Use a slim database – a lightweight copy with metadata only (artist, title, BPM, key, genre, cue points), reducing ~2 GB to ~5–25 MB. On desktop go to Settings → Export slim (creating a slim is Pro), the file gets saved into Database2 and downloaded at the same time. Then transfer it to the tablet (into Engine Library/Database2) or load it directly. Loading a finished slim is Free.

Newly added tracks aren't visible in the app

Cause: The index and the database show the state from when they were last loaded. Tracks added to Engine DJ after that the app doesn't "know" yet.

Fix: Run reindexing – in Settings → "Find new". It adds only the newly arrived tracks, so it's much faster than building the whole index again. If they're also missing from the lists and playlists, reload the Engine database too (the connected library) so the latest changes show up.

I forgot my licence key

Cause: The licence key is generated after registration and e-mail confirmation (even for the Free plan) and is entered in the app under Settings / Profile. Without it the app won't start.

Fix: You'll find the key in your account (the My account / Profile section on djanalyzer.com) and in the confirmation e-mail from registration. Copy it and paste it in the app under Settings → Profile. Once a licence is verified, it holds offline too, so you don't have to enter it every time. If you can't find the key anywhere, get in touch with support.

DJanalyzer comes in three plans. The main dividing line is simple: browsing, analysing and playing your Engine DJ library on the desktop is free; the moment you want to write changes back to Engine DJ, use the Pro player engine (recommendations, crossfading, volume levelling) or run the app on a tablet or phone, you need Pro. Studio adds lighting, streaming and more devices on top, for residents and professionals.

Free isn't a demo – on the desktop you get the full value for browsing and playback. You load your m.db with one click (it runs right in your browser, nothing to install), search lightning-fast without diacritics across your library, look through complete duplicates, history and TOP tracks, and fire up the built-in player with cue points straight from Engine DJ. Your data stays locally with you.

Note: In Free you browse everything but don't save. Saving changes back to Engine DJ and exporting are in Pro. Touch mode for tablet and phone is also Pro – but on the desktop Free runs in full.

Pro Pro

From library to a finished set. Saves changes back to Engine DJ.

Pro includes everything in Free and adds the main thing – writing back to Engine DJ: reordering, deleting, renaming and editing metadata, plus cleaning up duplicates. On top of that there's track recommendations, beat-aligned automix and volume normalisation (LUFS), saving the auto-fill and adding genres with one click, importing and exporting CSV (DJRezervace.cz), running on Android and iPad as well as an optimised mode for tablet and phone, and active e-mail support.

Tip: The app makes every write with a backup of your m.db before the change, so you won't lose any data. During early access Pro runs at an introductory price (the regular price is higher).

Studio Studio

Will DJanalyzer replace Engine DJ for me?

No – and it doesn't want to. You keep playing from Denon Engine DJ on your Prime or SC. DJanalyzer is an add-on: it loads the same Engine DJ database, helps you prepare and tidy up your library, play playlists and write changes back to Engine DJ. It's not a tool for rekordbox or Serato.

Do I upload my music or database anywhere?

No. The database and all the analysis run only on your side, in your browser, and audio plays from your local files. Nothing leaves for any server. Close the tab and the data is gone.

Does it work on Android and iPad?

Yes. DJanalyzer is the only tool for Engine DJ that's usable on Android and iPad too. The app runs on every device; the comfortable Tablet/Phone touch modes and the fullscreen player, though, are features of the Pro plan. On a tablet you also usually use a slim database (see below), because the full m.db is too large for mobile memory.

Do I have to pay for it?

No. The Free plan is full-featured and card-free – on the desktop you load your m.db and go through your whole library for real (diacritics-free search, duplicates, history and TOP tracks, player with cue points, albums). What's paid is mainly the things that write back to Engine DJ, the touch modes and the advanced engine – the Pro and Studio plans.

What is a "slim" database and why do I need it?

The full m.db can easily be ~2 GB, because it also contains artwork and beat-grid data – and a file that big won't load into a browser on a tablet/phone. Slim is a lightweight copy with just the metadata (artist, title, BPM, key, genre, cue points), turning ~2 GB into ~5–25 MB. Loading a ready-made slim is Free, creating/exporting a slim is Pro.

Does the app work offline?

Yes. After the first online load the app works completely offline – the app and the licence are saved to the device, and you have the database and index locally. So a DJ on the road with no signal can launch the app and play. A valid licence holds offline (it accepts the last verified payment).

Can I install the app as a normal application?

Yes. It's what's called a PWA – on the desktop click the install icon in the address bar or the "Install app" button, on phone/tablet tap "Add to Home Screen". You get your own icon and a window without the browser bar, the app updates itself and works offline.

How long does indexing the library take?

It depends on the size of the library and the speed of the storage. On the desktop it's usually quick; the first full indexing of a large library (tens of thousands of tracks) on a tablet can take hours. But you build it only once – the index is saved and the next launch is a matter of a few seconds. You can pause it, resume, and have an e-mail sent to you when it finishes.

What if I add new tracks to Engine DJ?

You don't have to build the index again. Run a reindex ("Find new") in Settings – it only adds the newly arrived tracks and is much faster than a full rebuild.

Does the app write to my Engine DJ database?

Only when you want it to, and on the Pro plan. Saving playlists, reordering, deleting, inline metadata editing, adding genres and removing duplicates can all be written back to the Engine database – and before every write a backup of m.db is made. In the Free version you try everything for real, it just isn't saved. So in Free the app doesn't change your database.

Does it work with rekordbox or Serato?

Not yet. DJanalyzer is currently built for Denon Engine DJ (the Database2/m.db database), so it doesn't work with rekordbox or Serato for now. However, rekordbox support is planned – the app's architecture is ready for it.

Do I have to install anything on my computer?

No. It's a web application – it runs in your browser (Chrome / Safari), nothing gets installed like a classic program. Optionally you can "add it to the Home Screen" as a PWA so you have your own icon and window, but even that isn't necessary. Just open open.djanalyzer.com.

10 Privacy and security

Privacy, data and security

DJanalyzer is designed so that your music and database stay only with you. Here's an overview of what happens to your data (and above all what doesn't happen to it).

Everything runs locally on your device

Loading the Engine DJ database, searching, duplicate detection, indexing and playback – it's all computed by your browser, right on your device. Your database and music aren't sent anywhere. No uploading to a server, no cloud processing of your library.

Purpose: Your library is your business know-how. The "privacy-first" principle means the app never sends it anywhere and no one has access to it – not even us.

Audio plays from your local files

The built-in player reaches directly for the files on your disk (through controlled access to the folder you pick yourself). Tracks aren't copied or streamed out anywhere – the app only reads what you show it.

Close the tab and it's gone

The app holds the loaded data in the browser's memory while you work. When you close the tab, the working data disappears. To make the next start faster the app saves only the music index and possibly the slim database to the browser's storage – and all of that stays locally on your device and you can delete it any time by clearing the site data in your browser.

Tip: If you use the app on someone else's or a shared device, clear the site data for open.djanalyzer.com in the browser when you're done – that removes the saved index and the slim database.

Writes to Engine DJ – always with a backup

When on the Pro plan you save changes back to Engine DJ (playlists, metadata, genres, deleting duplicates), the app makes a backup of m.db before every write. If anything were to go wrong, you have something to go back to.

Note: Even so, the usual caution applies – keep an important Engine library backed up separately as well (e.g. a copy of the Engine Library folder) before bigger bulk edits.

Account and licence

To run the app you need an account and a licence key (even for the Free plan) – that's the only thing verified online, and it serves only to activate the licence. Once the licence has been verified, it works offline too: the app accepts the last valid licence, so you can work without a connection (e.g. at an event with no signal). Don't share your licence key with anyone – it belongs to your account.

Offline and privacy go hand in hand

Because the app runs offline after the first load and processes your data only locally, there's nowhere for your library to "leak" to. That's the main reason DJanalyzer works this way – the convenience and the peace of mind that sensitive data stays with you.
